Moving Words 2014, the inaugural competition for literary translation by New Zealand secondary-level students, has now concluded.
We were delighted to receive 38 entries in and between a variety of languages: Afrikaans, Chinese, Croatian, Flemish, English, French, Latin, te reo Māori, New Zealand Sign Language, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Each of these winning entries was awarded $1,000 to be shared between the student(s) and their school.
As well as the New Zealand Centre for Literary Translation, Wai-te-ata Press, and the New Zealand Book Council, this project was supported by a variety of institutions, notably the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage, the Office of Ethnic Affairs, the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand, the Human Rights Commission, the New Zealand Society of Interpreters and Translators, and the Sign Language Interpreters Association of New Zealand.
The generosity of several cultural and diplomatic instutions also allowed for additional prizes in specific languages.
