The Calligrapher
Peaches blossom this year; Again the calligrapher came. To the crowed town With his pen and ink. People paid him to write Valued his black on red Used his hands skillfully, Making dragons and phoenix dance. Crowd shrink each year. Where are the waiting queues? The splendid red script fades. Ink dries in the pot. There the calligrapher sits, Passersby are ignorance Script covered by leaves, Dusted with rain. Peaches blossom again But he didn’t come. People who valued his scripts Where are you now? |
Ông Đồ – Vũ Đình Liên (1936)
Mỗi năm hoa đào nở Lại thấy ông đồ già Bày mực tầu giấy đỏ Bên phố đông ng ời qua. Bao nhiêu ng ời thuê viết Tấm tắc ngợi khen tài Hoa tay thảo những nét Nh ph ợng múa rồng bay! Nh ng mỗi năm mỗi vắng Ng ời thuê viết nay đâu Giấy đỏ buồn không thắm Mực đọng trong nghiên sầu! Ông đồ vẫn ngồi đấy Qua đ ờng không ai hay Lá vàng r i trên giấy Ngoài trời m a bụi bay. Năm nay đào lại nở Không thấy ông đồ x a Những ng ời muôn năm cũ Hồn ở đâu bây giờ? |
