If I have the right to say in French today My sorrow and my hope, my anger and my joy If nothing is shrouded forever Of our immense dream and of our wisdom It’s that some foreigners, as we call them still Believed in real justice here on earth They had in their blood the blood of their fellows These foreigners knew that it was their homeland The freedom of a nation frees all nations An innocent in irons enchains all men And he who denies his heart knows his law We must conquer the abyss and conquer the vermin These foreigners here who chose the fire Their portraits on the walls are living forever A sun of memory lights up their beauty They have killed to live, they have cried vengeance Their life killed death at the heart of a set mirror The only vow of justice echoes life And when we hear this voice no more When we kill no more they will be well avenged. And this will be justice. |
