The Black Hole
Camila had a small problem. "If I sit down under the stairs and think, I can figure it out in a little while". She made herself comfortable under the stairs that looked out to the garden and thought a little and then some more. And so she realised that the more she thought, the bigger the problem became. It was about making a birthday present for her mum. She wanted to make her a beautiful and very cheery present, which would make her happy. That wasn't the problem because her mum loved the crazy thing that Camila came up with and, anyways, she already knew that with a little yellow paint and some red and green, her mum would say "it's so cheerful!" Perhaps she needed to buy a couple of things but that wasn't the problem either because she had been saving her pocket money for three weeks. She thought of the presents she had made her mum in the past: For Christmas, she knitted her a long, long, long scarf with stripes of all colours that her mum didn't take off for two weeks, but one morning when the sun came out, she took it off and lost it. On her saint day she made her a blood red keychain. Fernanda, her best friend, had shown her how to make the moulds. She made a very big 'A' (her mum's name starts with an A). Her mum loved it. "Like this I won't lose the keys anymore", she said, and she put them on her new keychain. They went to the park for a bike ride and when they returned they had to call the locksmith to open the door because they had lost the keys, with the keychain and everything. And this was the problem, her mum lost everything. She lost the keys, she lost the shopping basket when she went to the market, she lost earrings, important papers and insignificant papers, the toothpaste cap, her wedding ring, the shoulder pads of her favourite sweater and, one time, she even lost an onion while she was cooking. The worst part was that when her mum lost these things, she also lost other more important things: time, patience and her good mood. Camila's problem was finding a nice, cheerful, fun, cheap present that COULD NOT BE LOST. |
