Farewell
Only he climbs to the scaffold arms tied seven guns against his straight back He thinks of a woman who will mourn in silence He dreams in the sun after him the rivers; the sparrows He sees a large palm tree that the wind enters and shakes He sees a cloud: I think perhaps it will rain He notices a rose which disappears behind the hedge: "Will it be plucked by a man? Offered to a young, happy girl? Abandoned on the bench in a garden?" He strained his eyes towards the dawn He was alone He climbed the wooden stairs A dove woke up She slept on the scaffold She flew far away. |

Seul il monte à l’échafaud les bras attachés sept fusils contre son dos bien droit Il pense à une femme qui le pleurera en silence Il rêve au soleil d’après lui aux fleuves ; aux moineaux Il voit un grand palmier que le vent pénètre et secoue Il voit un nuage : après moi, il pleuvra peutêtre Il aperçoit un narcisse qui disparaît derrière la haie: « Seratil cueilli par un homme ? Offert à une jeune fille heureuse ? Abandonné sur le banc d’un jardin ? » Il a tendu ses yeux vers l’aube Il était seul Il a monté les escaliers de bois Une tourterelle s’est réveillée Elle dormait sur l’échafaud Elle s’est envolée au loin. |
