The Great War
I will go in memory of those who have fallen I’ll place some roses, some pansies too On the grey marble of those nameless tombs Where no one goes, that time has forgotten I will go burn a candle, pray on bended knee In memory of soldiers who gave their life Fighting like heroes for the motherland Even after 100 years – lest we forget At the base of monuments I will go and read again The names of these officers or simple soldiers Whether they were gassed or buried, died as heroes or by their own hand They were all young and beautiful, and they were all our children |
